Welcome to the blog

Hello, World Wide Web!

My name is Max Power and I am a photographer based in Berlin, Germany. With this shout out into the vast reaches of the Internet, I would like to thank you for stopping by and welcome you to my personal photographic journey.

Like many other fellow photographers out there, I have thoughts, opinions and experiences that I would like to share with you on this blog.

Throughout my lifetime, I have been privileged to travel to many far off lands, meeting interesting people and witnessing our beautiful planet. This has played a major role in shaping my photographic interest, making me very fond of environmental portraiture, cinematic visuals and documentary imagery.

Today, I aim to fuse the style of my ongoing personal projects with my commercial assignments including portrait, documentary and travel work.

Who am I?

Born with two nationalities, American and German, I partly grew up in the USA, but spent most of my childhood in Germany. I moved to Berlin to start my formal training as an industrial engineer and received my Master of Science Degree in 2014.

Early on, my photography was mostly about documenting family life, friends and travel moments. Using only compact cameras I enjoyed doing so, but saw no “greater picture” or meaning in it all. Later, in my early college years, inspired by cinema, books and exhibitions, I became fascinated with the many perspectives and possibilities of expressing oneself with imagery. No words were necessary to give meaning to moments. I felt the urge to start taking photographs more frequently and with intent. It has been a fundamental part of my life ever since.

What to expect from the blog

Writing something about myself in a dedicated and sincere manner for the first time was challenging. If I had one goal for this blog, I would hope that enthusiasts and photographers can relate to this creative outlet and walk away with something of value. Reading encouraging and inspiring words on other blogs has helped me climb further up my own creative ladder. I now feel the need to give something back and to hold that ladder for others to climb.

Apart from sharing personal stories, projects or moments, the topics and themes of this blog may include reviews of photo equipment that I have used, photo books I have read, exhibitions I have seen, locations I have visited, self assigned projects, commercial work or perhaps the philosophical nitty-gritty of photography itself. Just like the latter, the possibilities are endless.

That’s all for now, folks! Thanks again for visiting my blog and I hope to see you again, soon!

Take care and go make photos,

Max
